Pioneer Era, 1870-1898
That's the name of the first postcard printed on America with pictures on it. These were the first postcards to have illustrated messages like this one has. Back on those days this type of cards were not commercially produced. They were called "pioneers". This old postcard was sold on London for a record amount of £31,750. According to postal historian Edward Proud this amount is a record for a postcard.
It caricatures the postal service by showing post office "scribes" sitting around an enormous inkwell.
